Bistro 1843 in Montreal

We have dined at bistro 1843 many time s for a good reason! Stellar home cooked meals using fresh ingredients. Owner chef and service in a comfortable atmosphere. be forewarned, Bistro 1843 is only open for dinner Wednesday to Sunday so you must reserve well in advance. Truely a wonderful culinary experience that should not be missed.... DON'T forget it's BYOB so bring your wine!

Went here based on friends reviews and boy they weren't wrong! This is a little quaint home with fantastic French cuisine, perfect for our date night. The menu is short but it does hit all the right spots. I had the seared scallop appetizer (wanted to order a second) and the soup of the day was to die for. I went plain Jane with my main which was chicken based and, it was a symphony of flavors. Will be going back soon, plus a BYOB, it really can't get any better!

We had my dad's 80th there last night. Food is fantastic...lovely service ...hidden gem indeed!

Called for a reservation for 14 for July 26th (5 weeks ago, hadn’t heard back; called back again tonight to confirm) ... completely blew me off, didn’t bother offering me options for other nights/dates/times... very disappointed since I’ve been wanting (and telling ALL my friends) to go back to this restaurant for years now... looks like my party of 14+ will be dining elsewhere this yearAnd sadly all our bdays to come

It was my third time at this French cuisine restaurant tonight, and it was still as good as the first two times!The food just melts in your mouth! One advice: You cannot pass on their dessert that is fully handmade by their chef! What a wonderful experience every time!And the service, there was just nothing wrong with it! 5 star through!One thing you should know: reserve! Reserve way ahead, this restaurant is full every night!I forgot to mention it's a BYOB!!!

Absolutely delicious. Europen atmosphere. The food is well presented and is outstanding.

This place has been great for years. I hadn't been in 4-5 years, and I was not disappointed​ this time around. The soup was fantastic, the boneless ribeye was tasty, and the lemon cheesecake melted in my mouth.

Beautiful converted old home with old but elegant chairs and delicious comfort foods elevated by using fresh ingredients and home made everything (sauce, salad dressing, desserts...). The creme brulee I had was out of this world and made in house. The rib eye steak was sublime, cooked medium rare. And you may bring your own wine. How great is that?

The food here is incredible. A wonderful relaxed environment, and I love the wingback chairs. So comfortable for a nice dinner out! I had the maple horseradish NY strip steak and the sauce was unbelievable. For a nice BYOB, it's possibly the best value for the 50$/table d'hote. Reserve super early, they are very very busy!

I took the table d'hôte, which included an entre, a main dish, a dessert and a coffee. The salad was simple, but I did try my sister's soup and it was delicious. For the main dish I ordered white fish, which was placed on a bed of baked potatoes and veggies. Sounds simple, but it was de-licous. I couldn't make up my mind for dessert because everything sounded amazing from their selection. I finally settled for cake pudding.

Excellent food but small menu, and ultimately a bit expensive

Great place to enjoy amazing dishes that mainly prepared fresh and from the local ingredients. Starting with fresh bread with salty butter and working your way to a soup/ salad with an optional entree or just dig into the main course and seal it with a mouthwatering dessert like their famous lemon cheesecake while supported with great service by a modest team but expert enough to ensure your enjoyment.

Everything we ate was good. The crab cake was particularly good. The place is quite popular and small though so you need to reserve a couple of months in advance usually. Don't show up without reservations!

Best restaurant I know! Amazing food service and food.

Always consistent in presentation and quality. Had the duck and it was tender, the sauce interesting and tasty and the vegetables cooked perfectly and not soft. The service was also very friendly and attentive. The rest of my group had the steak or lamb and all agreed that their meal was delicious.

You are Served by the owners nothing better in the restaurant business than talking to the guys who actually makes the food buys the food and prepare the food nothing I can say about this restaurant that isn't already said..... super highly recommended ....wonderful service...... the head waitress and the head cook are the owners!! intimate setting in a building that is actually built in 1843 just like the name of the restaurant ...one of the top five restaurants in the West Island

Great food, smart concept. Service is a little slow, but that has more to do with the concept that anything else. We fully enjoyed everything we were served.Made for a different date night. Note that the ambiance here is very Victorian. the restaurant is in a historic home. Try it out, but be advised you have to reserve minimum 3 months ahead of time.

Love this hidden gem. Very cozy and food is always amazing + a BYOB. It has a small homey setting and need to make reservations many weeks in advance but well worth the wait!

Fabulous. Nothing else to say. Scallops, rack of lamb and flourless chocolate cake. All to die for.

Everything was impressive except main dishes for both my wife and I which could heve beem better. We ordered file minion and rib eye.

Best restaurant period

The seasonal table d'hote menu is always phenomenal, and their regular menu is so good that my husband and I often order appetizers from the set menu in addition to ordering from the table d'hote. It is so rare that you find a restaurant where every bite from the first piece of bread to the last spoonful of dessert is just perfect. The chef Tarik & his wife Sara-Ann (front of house) take great pains to create a wonderful dining experience in their lovely intimate dining room. The only thing better than the food is the service, and that is saying something!
